I love chocolate. Yes, I am not afraid to admit it. Not the healthier dark chocolate, but the creamy goodness of milk chocolate. Why is chocolate on my mind? Perhaps because it was just Valentine’s Day and my husband bought me some delicious turtles, but it also because of a conversation I had with someone this week. This article really isn’t about chocolate. What it is about is taking time to enjoy doing something you love.
Every day we face deadlines, endless meetings, household chores (do we ever finish the laundry?), and we live for our vacations, that precious time when we hope that we can decompress. Often, instead of resting, we are schlepping from activity to activity, and perhaps missing the whole point of vacation, REST.
Most of us can’t take a two week long vacation any time we want to because of responsibilities, but I can’t get away from the idea of taking a “bite-sized” vacation. What do I mean? I mean, taking five minutes to enjoy that small chocolate patty and savoring it in your mouth, oops! Sorry got distracted again. No, seriously. Take a “bite-sized” vacation. Shut your phone off for a couple of hours. [Gasp!] Schedule time for a massage.
Take a mental vacation and imagine yourself on the beach. Read a great book and escape from everyday life. Go to a great show and belly laugh. A recent article came out that Gen Z are more stressed about work than any other generation due to the pandemic, economy, etc. Let’s face it. We are all stressed by one thing or another. My thought is this: let’s take a vacation. Certainly take that cruise if you can, visit Disney with your kids, or whatever. My cousins are talking about taking a cousin trip to Wyoming to stay in a cabin. (I’m a city girl, I’ll have to think about that). If you can’t get away right now, take a “bite-sized” vacation. Do it. Your mind and body will thank you later.
Thanks for reading. Now get to it. Right now. Look at the above beach scene to get you started. Enjoy!
